Ice Dam & Snow Damage Repair
Ice dams are a Northeast Ohio specialty, and they're as much a ventilation problem as a weather problem. We remove the ice, repair the damage, and fix the reason it formed.
Why ice dams happen and what we do about them
An ice dam forms when heat escaping into your attic melts the snow on the upper roof. The meltwater runs down, refreezes over the cold eaves, and builds a ridge of ice. Water pooling behind that ridge backs up under the shingles, and that's when ceilings stain and walls get wet.
The emergency part is removal: we clear the dam and relieve the water without tearing up the roof surface. Steaming and careful mechanical removal, not hatchets and rock salt.
The lasting part is prevention. The fix is almost always in the attic: air sealing, insulation, and balanced ventilation so the roof deck stays cold and the snow stops melting from below. Ice and water shield at the eaves protects the structure when weather wins anyway. We quote the repair and the prevention together so you stop paying for the same ice twice.

Removal without damage
Steam and careful hand work. No chipping tools that take shingles with the ice.
The attic is the cure
Insulation and ventilation keep the deck cold, which is what actually stops ice dams.
Winter is home field
We've worked Mahoning Valley winters since 2013. This is not exotic weather to us.
Good to know
Frequently asked questions
What actually causes ice dams?
Warm attic air melting snow from below. The water refreezes over the cold eaves and builds a dam. Insulation and ventilation problems are the root cause, not the snowfall itself.
Will better ventilation really stop ice dams?
In most homes, yes. Air sealing plus insulation plus balanced intake and exhaust keeps the roof deck near outdoor temperature, so the snow stops melting unevenly.
Are heat cables worth it?
They help in stubborn trouble spots like north-facing eaves and complicated valleys, but they treat the symptom. We recommend them as a supplement after the attic fixes, not instead of them.
