What hail damage really looks like
On an asphalt shingle, hail damage is a bruise: a soft, dark spot where the impact crushed the granules into the mat underneath. The granules wash off, the mat is exposed to sun, and the shingle ages fast right there. It's easy to miss from the ground and easy to confuse with normal wear, which is why hail inspections reward experience.
On metal, hail leaves dents. Most dents on quality panels are cosmetic and the roof keeps performing, which is one of the reasons we install so much metal here.
